"The Other Side of the Vision after the Sermon" is influenced by the post-impressionist painting "Vision After the Sermon," by Paul Gauguin made in 1888. "The Other Side" appropriates the composition and meaning of Gauguin's painting in order to transform the original meaning to apply within a contemporary context that reflects the state of present day race relations, which is supposedly understood or "seen" by a select few.
